Description:
The sculpture is composed of a series of elements representing iron or fire. The overall form is derived from the "Devil's Doorway," a natural land formation in Wisconsin. The doorway is composed of cubes formed in the molecular structure of iron. To the right of the cube column is a butterfly, an ancient Aztec symbol of fire. The butterfly stands on a supporting cube and leans towards the column. In the center of the butterfly is the "eye" of Olin, the fire god. A medieval iron monger's sword is the center shaft of the butterfly. The base is a series cylindric steps whose form depicts a magnified view of the molecular structure of rusting iron. Inner piping provides a path for cascading water.
