    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was funded by Association of Merchants and Manufacturers. The plaque may have been inspired by an engraving taken from an Alonzo Chappel oil painting in the Rhode Island School of Design collection.
    Rededication plaque by Healy Brothers (of Lincoln, RI) who also restored original plaque. IAS files include citations to the Providence Journal May, 31, 1906, June 1 & 14, 1906, March 7, 1909, July 8 & 13 1926, and to the books, "Providence Pictoral History," by Patrick Conley, (Norfolk, VA: Dunning Company, 1982, pg. 13) and "The Civic and Architectural Development of Providence, 1636-1950," by John H. Cody, (Providence, RI: The Book Shop, 1957).
