Description:
Two dark brown hippopotami laying parallel to one another, with one's head resting on the other's back. They are resting in a shallow concrete pool which forms the base of the sculpture.

Remarks:
The sculpture was funded by Alicia Davies in honor of her father, Ralph K. Davies who was Vice President of the Standard Oil Company of California; President of American President Lines. He died in 1917. The sculpture has a final coat of British resin called Belzona that has quartz suspended in it to give it the texture of stone. A plaque, originally located on a concrete block in front of the sculpture, is now missing. IAS files contain an article from the Honolulu Star Bulletin: June 3, 1976, page E-1; and citations to articles on the artist, director of the Honolulu Zoo.
