Description:
A family of four consisting of a father and mother standing with their backs to each other, a young daughter standing in front of the father on his proper right side, and an infant in the arms of the mother. The father has short hair and wears a jacket, a bag with a protruding teddy bear hangs from his shoulder. His proper right hand rests on his daughter's shoulder. She is about seven or eight, her hair is in pigtails and she wears a knee-length dress and buckled shoes. The mother is leaning slightly with her back resting on the father's back. She has short hair, a top with sleeves that reach her elbows, a calf-length skirt and buckled shoes. The baby rests its head on the mother's shoulder.

Inscription on nearby play reads: "Family" By Elmer P. Petersen given in memory of Sigurd B. Gundersen, Sr. M. D. By his Students, Patients, and Friends. The sculpture was commissioned by the Gundersen Medical Foundation. It was funded through gifts by friends of the Gundersen Medical Foundation and was intended to mark the Foundation's 40th anniversary. Jerry Thompson of the Peter Nelson & Son Construction Company installed the sculpture. IAS files contain a related article from the LaCrosse Tribune, Oct. 18, 1983, pg. 1, 8.
