Description:
Landscaped esplanade of sculpture includes decorative and drinking fountains. The main fountain is designed as a mountain stream, where water flows from an upper pool down irregular steps into a lower pool. Some of the walls have a coarse broom finish, applied with a stable broom before the concrete was set. Other walls have a light sand finish.

Remarks:
Commissioned in memory of Asa Lovejoy (1808-1882), one of Portland's founders. A commemorative plaque was placed by the Lang Syne Society of Portland in 1993. IAS files include the text of the plaque and a related article from the Oregonian, Dec. 30, 1982.
