    Remarks:
The original Praying Hands Memorial was a gift of the Class of 1948 to honor University students who served in World War II. The sculptor was a member of the class. The concept of "praying hands" came from a painting of the same name by Durer. The Thomas Cast Stone Company built the steps. The cost was $500. In 1989, the Iota Kappa Pi Fraternity initiated the expansion of the monument to include each war in which University students served. The expansion was designed by Michael Florin Dente, resident sculptor. The landscaping is by James Haines. The plaques are by Allen Webb of Oregon Brass Works. Donald Hanna Jr. of the Halifax Construction Company oversaw the project's construction. The monument is the site of an annual memorial service held by the University's ROTC. IAS files include diagrams, detailed measurements, the text of commemorative plaques and a dedication brochure which lists the project's sponsors and the names which appear on the monument. IAS files also include related articles from the following University publications: the Alumni Bulletin, Oct. 1948 and the Beacon, March 5, 1948, April 9, 1948, Sept. 12, 1991, Sept. 26, 1991 and Nov. 11, 1991.
