Located Green's Farms Elementary School, 17 Morningside Drive South, Stairwell near north entrance, Westport Connecticut 06880
Remarks:
Funded through the Works Progress Administration. This fountain installed at the original entrance to the Green's Farms Elementary School is part of what was once a five-part installation consisting of a stepped fountain in the space between two sets of stairs; a bronze statue of a little girl (modeled after the artist's daughter, Robin Thew) seated on the edge of the lower fountain pool, her foot dangling in the water; two wrought iron stairway railings fashioned to resemble reeds and grasses; a chandelier featuring sea gulls; and a fresco mural depicting clouds and flying sea gulls against a blue sky on the ceiling arching over the two fountain pools. In 1982, the school closed due to declining enrollment and the building became the home of the Westport Art Center, which worked to restore the fountain installation in 1995. In 1998, the building was converted back to the Green's Farms Elementary School and the fountain was altered to accommodate safety codes.
