HE WAS HELD/CAPTIVE FOR 9 YEARS ON THE "RIVER OF/NUTS" WHERE HE HAD AMPLE OPPORTU-/NITY TO OBSERVE THE GROWTH AND/FRUITING HABITS OF PECANS. THIS PLAQUE/ERECTED ON DECEMBER 1, 1978 BY THE/TEXAS PECAN GROWERS ASSOCIATION/AND THE GUADALUPE COUNTY PECAN/GROWERS ASSOCIATION COMMEMORATES/THE FIRST RECORDED CONTRIBUTION TO/THE PECAN LITERATURE. unsigned
    Description: 
    A large pecan framed with steel rods, 3/4 in. channel iron and metal lath, and covered with stucco. The color is a base of coppers, with cement color added. The pecan lies on its side on a tiered base of cement. On the front of the base is a plaque with a raised seal of the Texas Pecan Growers Association. A wooden sign on two posts stands above the sculpture.

    Remarks: 
    Dr. E. W. Darilek of Seguin, TX conceived the idea for this piece, designed to commemorate the importance of the pecan to Seguin's economy. IAS files include correspondence (11/2/1974) from Engbrock, which gives detailed media information. Inscription on wooden sign above sculpture reads: SEGUIN/HOME OF THE WORLD'S/LARGEST PECAN.
