(copyright symbol) 1993 signed Description:  A serpentine brick wall adorned with three reliefs designed for the visually impaired. The center of the wall is shaped like the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and within this area is the Tree of Memories, a broad tree with low, leafy branches. The Tree of Memories relief is flanked by two long, narrow reliefs depicting Nature's Alphabet. The alphabet reliefs consist of animals, plants, and insects representing the letters of the alphabet. Depicted in alphabetic order are: an armadillo, a butterfly, a crab, a dogwood flower, an elephant, a fish, grapes, a hippo, an iguana, a jelly fish, a kiwi, a lobster, a moth, a narcissus, an onion, peas in a pod, a quail, raspberries, a snake, a tulip, an umbrette, a volute, a walnut, a xylocopa, a yak, and a zebra. Seven different colors of clay are combined in these reliefs. Inscription on right front end of wall reads: Donated by/Dr. Ron and Sue Cohn/In honor of our children/Seth, Whitney, Ariel, And Grayson/and for the visually impaired/1993. IAS files contain a copy of the dedication program and related articles from the Journal-Patriot (North Wilkesboro, N.C.), Dec. 30, 1993, that discusses the sculpture's creation and dedication; and the Wilkes Community College Quarterly 3 (Winter 1993-1994): pg. 2-3, with information on the sculpture's design, creation, and purpose.
