(On bronze plaque, southwest face, raised:) 1917 THE WORLD WAR 1918/IN HONOR OF THOSE WHO GAVE AND THOSE/OFFERED THEIR LIVES FOR LIBERTY/THE PEOPLE OF NORFOLK HAVE BUILT/THIS MONUMENT AND CROWNED IT WITH/THE LIBERTY BELL/IN THE FAITH THAT IT WILL RING THE/KNELL OF WAR/AND PROCLAIM THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAN./THE BELL WAS DONATED BY MARY ELDRIDGE/IT IS A CAREFUL REPRODUCTION OF THE/ORIGINAL LIBERTY BELL IN INDEPENDENCE HALL./DEDICATED NOVEMBER 11, 1921 MONUMENT COMMITTEE. (On east face:) THE MEN OF NOFOLK WHO SERVED IN/THE WORLD WAR/1918 (sic)-1918/DIED/IN/SERVICE (two columns of 15 names, one of eight) (On northwest face:) THE MEN OF NORFOLK WHO SERVED IN/THE WORLD WAR/1917-1918 (two columns of 14 names, one of thirteen) signed Founder's mark appears. Description:  A triangular-shaped, "wall structure" in granite, with open niche at top holding bronze replica of the Liberty Bell. Each face of the wall has a bronze text plaque and wide built-in seats. The entire memorial is surrounded by seven trees and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Alfredo S.G. Taylor Thematic Group.
