    Description:
A crucifix is mounted above and between two doorways on the facade of a church. To the left of the entrance is a relief panel of figures, representing all walks of life, "depicting the basic Christian vocation of carrying the cross with Christ." Included are clergy, white-collared workers, a farm family, and children. Sunflowers appear above a kneeling monk, and a little boy holds a sheaf of wheat. Above the panel is a partial inscription from Saint Matthew.

    Owner:

    Remarks:
The facade was designed by Ernest Bruce Haskell, and carved by Winfred Szathowski and his assistant, Harold Elgar, working from clay models cast by Haskell. The processional panel represents the membership of the church, and was blended with a "Kansas theme," such as the sunflowers and the sheaf of wheat. IAS files contain clipping from the Salina Journal, May 4, 1952, which also discusses the relief of Peter, Matthew, Luke and John by the artists, located in the church interior.
