Description:
Full-length figure of a Union soldier in uniform. The soldier wears an overcoat with cape thrown over his proper right shoulder and a cap. He holds the barrel of a rifle in his hands; the butt of the gun rests on the ground. The white bronze sculpture stands atop a large granite boulder.

Remarks:
Total cost of the monument and dedication ceremony was $1088.41. The sculpture and plaque were supplied by the Monumental Bronze Company. The boulder was a gift from Francis H. Sawyer, a citizen of Hampstead. The monument was built by Sullivan & Ela of Haverhill, NH. IAS files contain transcriptions of names listed on plaque. IAS files contain copy of the "Annual Report for the Town of Hampstead, Feb. 15, 1907, Report of the Monument Committee". IAS files contain copy of related material from "Town of Hampstead N.H. 225th Anniversary", 1974; and copy of related transcript from David Ruell's "The Public Sculpture of New Hampshire", Concord: New Hampshire Historical Society, pg. 61-62.
