    Provenance:
Formerly located Edward Little High School, Main & Academy Streets, Auburn, Maine
    Remarks:
Commissioned by the City of Auburn for $7,000 as one of the terms of transfer when the City took over the Edward Little Institute from the Institute's Board of Trustees. Edward Little was the founder of the Institute, previously called the Lewiston Falls Academy. The original location was at Main & Academy Streets in Auburn. As the school underwent renovations over the years, the sculpture was moved within the grounds. A new high school was built in the early 1960s, and the E. L. Key Club arranged to have the sculpture moved to the new site in 1967. IAS files include excerpts from the books "Auburn: 100 Years a City 1869-1969," by Ralph Skinner (1968) and "History of Androscoggin County," by W. A. Ferguson (Boston, 1881) and related articles from the Boston Transcript, Aug. 14, 1874 and the Lewiston Journal, Nov. 5, 1927, Dec 14, 1963 and Dec 7, 1968.
