Description:
Standing figure of a Civil War soldier set up on a decorative base supported by four tall smooth granite columns. He wears a uniform consisting of a long coat, a cape buttoned at the top and a cap. The mustached figure holds a sword on his proper left side with his proper right hand. His proper left hand holds a large flag which draps down over his shoulder between his arm and his body. His proper right foot is forward and bent at the knee.

Remarks:
IAS files contain a copy of the Belvidere Daily Republican (Belvidere, IL), Oct. 15, 1910 discussing the dedication ceremony. Big Thunder Park was previously known as Court House Square. Funding for the statue was a gift from Mark and John Ramsey. Cost $7,800.
