Sculpture was carved in 1977 to replace one of two original bear totems which formerly stood in front of the Wrangell Museum. Originals were about forty years old when new carvings were made; they once stood in front of Walter Water's Bear Totem Store (prior to relocation to the Museum site). The 1977 sculptures were funded by the Wrangell Bicentennial Commission.
