Inscription:  signed Description:  An abstract sculpture consisting of two arched openings, one within the other, that people can walk through. The sculpture is decorated with a mosaic of colorful tiles, glass and small found objects, including perfume bottles, arranged in modified quilt patterns. Recessed lighting is in the foundation. Subject:  Abstract Ethnic -- African American Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- Louisiana -- Shreveport Mosaic Sculpture Owner:  Administered by City of Shreveport, Downtown Development Authority, 401 Edwards Street, Shreveport, Louisiana 71101 Located Southwest corner of Texas & McNeil Streets, Shreveport, Louisiana Remarks:  The sculpture is based on African-American and Anglo-American quilt motifs. IAS files contain an article from Almagest (Louisiana State University at Shreveport), dated Sept. 1994. The sculpture was created by LSUS art instructor Barbara Abbott and designed in collaboration with Francis Drew. The sculpture was commissioned by the City of Shreveport as part of the Streetscape Art Island Bridge Lighting Project. Many of the objects used in the sculpture were collected over a three year period and donated by students and the community. Raymond Davis was construction contractor; James Avant constructed the armature; and Randolf Johnson assisted with the wire lathe. LSUS students - Donna Moore, Ruth Foster, Amy Schmidt, Terri Stevenson, Betsy Hamilton, and Mandy Yeager -- assisted the artist on the project. Nearby plaque reads: "Quilt Kiosk"/(copyright symbol) 1994/Created by Barbara Abbott and Frances Drew/from the collection of The Shreveport Regional/Arts Council commissioned through the City of/Shreveport.
