    Remarks:
The Pacifist Memorial is situated along the route that many pacifists, mostly Quakers, used as they escaped religious persecution in Boston by the Puritans. Lewis Randa, a Quaker, commissioned the sculpture memorial, with Ghandi as its centerpiece. One of the great influences on Gandhi's thinking was the witness of the Quakers in the Massachusetts Bay Colony and the acts of conscience of Quakers throughout the world. The sculpture was dedicated on the 125th anniversary of Gandhi's birth. The six radiating walls surrounding the sculpture contain plaques with names of and quotations from sixty peacemakers, thirty men and thirty women. At the heads of each wall are engraved one of the Peace Seeds, a condensed form of the Sacred Office of Peace. These prayers of peace from each of the world's major faith traditions, were first prayed at the convocation of religious leaders at Assisi, Italy in 1986 called by Pope John Paul II. IAS files contain photocopied images of some of the plaques; a copy of the dedication program; publicity brochure and information sheet on The Pacifist Memorial.
