    Description: 
    A huge steel dome constructed with one inch square steel bars. At the top of the dome is a circular opening through which sunlight shines on the summer solstice. The shadow cast by the sun is surrounded by a circular metal bar embedded in the ground inside the dome. Eight-foot circular openings on the east and west sides of the dome frame the rising and setting sun at the equinoxes. A six-foot circular opening on the north side of the dome frames the North Star.

    Remarks: 
    The inscription on a plaque located near the former location read: Nancy Holt / Annual Rings / 1981 / Commissioned under the Art-in-Architecture Program / General Services Administration / United States of America. The sculpture, formerly located on the roof the Federal Building in downtown Saginaw, was relocated when the building was demolished in 1999. The sculpture was installed on the campus of Saginaw Valley State Univeristy in 2000.
