    Remarks:
The sculpture cost $50,000. It is the third Lady Justice to be installed on the dome of the Ontario County courthouse. Funding for the sculpture was obtained through the local bar association, public subscription and from county revenues. The artist was assisted by Michael Soles on the project. Walter O'Brien applied gold leaf to the figure. The sculpture was struck by lightning in 1992 but sustained no damage. The figure's proper left arm is protected by a lightning arrester point and a ground cable.
The original sculpture mounted on the dome was made of wood. It was installed in 1858. In 1961, the sculpture was replaced with a gilded pine Lady Justice. The second sculpture was removed in May of 1981. IAS files contain the booklet, "Ontario County Court House: Its History and Restoration," Canandaigua, NY: County of Ontario, 1988; and a report from the Special Committee for Ontario County Board of Supervisors entitled, "Lady Justice Statue For Ontario County Court House," 1983.
