    Description: 
    Two children, a boy and a girl, hold a large shell in their hands as they run along the seashore while waves break around their legs. The sculpture rests on a round, two-stepped base. Two pools have been carved out of the lower step to hold water from the fountain.

    Remarks: 
    Funds for the drinking fountain were provided in the will of Mary Folsom Parker. The fountain was originally located on the front lawn of the library on Bedford Street, but was moved when an addition was built in 1979. The sculpture was relocated to the corner where the new section of the library joins the main library. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form C - Monuments questionnaire.
