    Description: 
    Standing figure of a Union Army officer on a tall granite obelisk, holding a flag on his proper left side with both hands. On one side of the obelisk below, stands the figure of a sailor looking south through a pair of binoculars. On the opposite side is the figure of a soldier holding a rifle on his proper left side. Between the upper and lower figures are listed major battles of the Civil War, Shiloh, etc.

    Remarks: 
    Michael Muldoon was the artist of the monument, Muldoon Monument Company was the fabricator of the piece, J. C. Cochrane was the architect and Sanger & Moody was the contractor. The statue was previously located west of its current location. The concrete base was a later addition to original granite base. Cost $10,000. Funded by County Government.
