Description:
Full-length figure of Otway Burns, Jr. stands on a square pedestal. The figure is dressed in early 19th century uniform and has a sword at his proper left side. He points to his birthplace with his proper left hand and holds a rolled up document in his proper right hand behind his head. There are epaulets on the shoulders of his coat.

Remarks:
Commissioned by the Town of Swansboro 200th Anniversary Celebration Committee as part of its Bicentennial. The base was constructed by Duane Creech and Richard Fennell with ballast stones recovered from the port at Swansboro. Bicentennial Park was designed by M. Stephen Warner and Robert N. Shuller. Otway Burns Jr. (1775-1850), a native North Carolinian, was a shipbuilder, legislator and veteran of the War of 1812. IAS files include a portion of the dedication program.
