    Remarks:
Commissioned by the University of Alabama Athletic Club Foundation in 1986 in memory of Paul W. "Bear" Bryant (1913-1983), a football coach at the University of Alabama from 1958-1982. Cost was approximately $80,000, with $10,000 allocated by the City of Birmingham. Funds were raised by public subscription, and donors' names are in a record book which is part of the memorial. Kenny Nellums created the original art design for the bust and planned the surrounding landscape. Busts were cast by the Sheidon Bronze Corporation. Reports and sources conflict on whether the stele medium is Georgia or Barre granite. IAS files include related articles from the Birmingham News, the Birmingham Post-Herald and the Tuscaloosa News, a press release from the A-Club and drawings and documentation from Clark Memorials.
