Description:
Relief on four floodwall panels depict the history of the City of Rochester and Olmsted County. Images include a Conestoga wagon, ceremonial peace pipe, bison, Canada geese, a wagon wheel, mill, cow, IBM computer, the Mayo Clinic's Plummer Building, the tornado of 1883 and a cornstalk. In front of the reliefs is a collection of rough-hewn rocks over which water flows.

Remarks:
Commissioned by the City of Rochester for approximately $50,000. The funds came from the City's flood control budget and was constructed under the supervision of the U.S. Corps of Engineers. Taff Roberts, the artist's husband, assisted with the mold-making. Sketches and other items related to the work while in progress were exhibited at the Rochester Arts Center, Sept. 18-Oct. 31, 1993. IAS files include related articles from the Rochester Post-Bulletin, Sept. 24, 1991 and Sept. 17, 1993, the Winona Daily News and a Winona State University press release, Feb. 25, 1992 and the text of a nearby commemorative plaque.
