Title supplied by Inventory cataloger.
The monument was erected in commemoration of the services of the men who served as soldiers, sailors, or marines during World War I. The order for the monument was placed on August 7, 1919. An act of the 50th General Assembly of Missouri appropriated the sum of $1,000 out of the County Revenue Fund, and an equal amount from the State of Missouri, to fund the monument. On Dec. 7, 1920, John H. Sander signed the agreement to erect the monument. IAS files contain the forty names inscribed on the base plaque; a contract for the erection of the monument, dated Dec. 7, 1920; a blueprint of monument; and an excerpt from the County Court Records, Book No. 28, pg. 370-371.
