    Remarks:
Sculpture is a copy of a portrait of Erasmus by Hendrick De Keiser made in 1622 in Rotterdam. This copy was made by S. Miedema in Rotterdam from a mold of the original in 1930. The original was later destroyed during World War II. Art Commission of the City of New York files contain a photograph of the original statue in Rotterdam and a detailed plan of the base. This sculpture was a gift of Richard Young, former member of the B.O.E., who acquired the site of Erasmus Hall High School from the Dutch Reform Church. Sculpture cost: 10,000 dollars. Inscription on nearby plaque reads: DESIDERIUS ERASMUS/BORN AT ROTTERDAM, OCTOBER 28, 1467/DIED AT BASE, JULY 12, 1536.
