Description:
The stone is carved in relief with an emblem depicting a harp topped with a bust of George Washington. The lower portion of the harp is carved in relief with an emblem depicting a pair of crossed flags, a pair of rifles, a pile of cannon balls, a cannon, a saber, a drum, and two books. Along the sides of the harp there is an incised inscription reading: Non nobis solum/sed Patriae et Amicis. In the center of the harp there is an inscription reading: THE/ADDISON/LITERARY SOCIETY/OF THE/WESTERN MILITARY/INSTITUTE:/DRENNON, KENTUCKY. Carved in relief between rows of stars on either side of the emblem is an inscription reading: TO THE FATHER/OF HIS/COUNTRY

Remarks:
One of 193 commemorative stones set into the interior walls of the Washington Monument. The stones were donated by states, cities, towns, organizations, individuals, and foreign countries in honor of George Washington. The Addisonian Literary Society, Western Military Institute, Drennon, Kentucky donated the stone, which is located at the 280 ft. level.
