The sculpture was cast using the French sand method of casting. Architect Richard Rummell may have worked with the artist on the piece. The sculpture honors Edith Travis (1882-1945), a local philanthropist who was very involved in promoting the arts in Cocoa, Florida. With her husband, S. F. Travis, Jr., she supported the Orange Jubilee Fair and the Cocoa Village Playhouse. Due to construction the sculpture was relocated in 2003 to the Brevard County Library garden, and ownership of the sculpture was transferred to Brevard County. The sculpture was restored by a conservator prior to relocation. For additional information on the restoration and relocation see: Space Coast Press-Tribune, Oct. 16, 2002, 1A-2A and April 16, 2003, 1A-2A.
