Description:
A memorial consisting of a ring of stone with a granite wall upon which is inscribed names of Veterans. Surrounding the wall are sixteen light spires which represent the Vietnam years from 1959 to 1975. The memorial includes two flagpoles (with the flags of the United States and Maryland), and two groups of four benches each.

Remarks:
The memorial was commissioned in September and construction began in October 1988. The memorial commemorates Maryland Vietnam veterans, who lost their lives and those who remain missing in action. The monument was authorized by Joint Resolution 22 of the Acts of 1983, which set up the Maryland Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission. Funds were raised by members of the Last Patrol (who sponsored walk-a-thons), corporations and the public, with the Maryland General Assembly providing $2,250,000. IAS files contain a copy of the dedication booklet, which lists the names on the memorial.
