    Remarks:
The monument honors those from Paxton who died in the Civil War. After the war, the town voted $500.00, to which was added another $300.00 from subscriptions for the monument. Originally there was an iron fence provided by the Ladies Social Union, but the fence is now replaced with a hedge. The cannons were a gift of the U.S. Congress and were procured in 1883. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form C - Monuments questionnaire.
