    Description: 
    A 1.3 acre environmental sculpture consists of seven monoliths which encircle a sunken amphitheater. Three of the pieces are rectangular with trellis-like patterns. Two of the pieces are wedge-shaped and one is a vertical rectangle. The final piece is L-shaped. All are painted in shades of gray, blue and cream, in patterns which give the surface appearance of marble.

    Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $50,000 given in 1984 to Rochester Sesquicentennial Inc. Additional funding was provided by the New York Council on the Arts ($15,000), the Alcoa Foundation ($15,000), and contributions of members of the Sesquicentennial Arts and Cultural Committee, corporate and individual donors ($22,000). IAS files contain drawings and plans with detailed dimensions; related articles from the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, June 28, 1986; and the Rochester Times-Union, Sept. 26, 1986, Oct. 16, 1986, and Oct. 17, 1986.
