Description:
A square relief, made with embossed and painted symbols and carved tile colored with blue glaze, depicting symbols of American culture. Within the square relief there is a circle on a diamond frame. Four elongated arms reaching in from the edge of the sculpture converge in the center, each grasping the wrist of the other, creating four quadrants in the relief. In the top quadrant there is a relief bust a Native-American male with a feather in his hair; in the right quadrant there is a relief bust of a Spanish explorer wearing a hat; in the bottom quadrant there is a relief bust of a Mexican male wearing a sombrero; and in the left quadrant there is a relief bust of a frontier woman wearing a bonnet. Surrounding the circular section is a relief of blue waves and along the edge of the diamond frame are mosaic tiles of native animal footprints. Images on the outer sections of the sculpture include a locomotive train, a tee-pee, a buffalo, a horse, and a pueblo.
