Description:
A crouching gargoyle figure with its head and proper right front leg emerging from a leafy frieze. Its mouth is open and the snout is blunt with open nostrils. The leg has four human-like fingers.

Remarks:
Nathan C. Ricker and James M. White were the architects of the building where the piece is set. From Chicago, J. Hakon Hoft, Richard Mohn, and Warren R. Roberts were contractors for the building. Altgeld Hall was built as the University Library and later housed the Law School. It is now the Mathematics Department and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
