The monument commemorates the 3rd Arkansas Infantry, the only Arkansas regiment in Lee's army of Northern Virginia. It rests on the site occupied by the Infantry prior to their attack on Devil's Den and Little Round Top on July 2, 1863. The aluminum cubes reflect the fact that Arkansas is an aluminum producing state. The monument is listed on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures (referred to as MN80) and is referenced in the Gettysburg National Military Park Archives, vol. 1. IAS files contain a copy of the LCS report form.
