    Remarks: 
    The Rock Gym, originally constructed as an armory/auditorium, was a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project, built in 1941 at a cost of $30,000. The cornerstone for the building was laid March 14, 1941. The architect for the building was H. J. Price, with masonry work done by the Newton Brothers, Joe Newton and J. C. Newton. Elberton County Middle School was originally the Elberton High School (also known as White High School or Central High). IAS files contain a related excerpt from the "Elbert County Bicentennial Commemorative Book," 1990, pg. 31; and articles from The Elberton Star: March 11, 1941, pg. 1; and March 14, 1941, pg. 1.
