Nearby plaque: "Statue presented to the city of San Francisco and the citizens of the United States by Gandhi Memorial Foundation International. Dedicated October 3, 1988." Cost of the sculpture was $120,000. Funds for the sculpture were raised within the Indo-American community. IAS files contain copy of related article from India-West, March 25, 1988 and copy of related City Resolution 364-88.
