    Remarks:
The supplier of the monument is identified in the G.A.R. minutes as Phillips & Sons, presumably referring to Thomas Phillips & Sons Company of New Haven, monument dealers. The fabricator was Smith Granite Company of Westerly, Rhode Island. Contract price for the Wallingford monument was $2,150. The land together with the Soldiers Monument was created by the Arthur H. Dutton Post, #36, G.A.R., and deeded to the town on April 4, 1904. The Post raised $8,000 for the monument, starting in 1885. James W. Pollette was the stone cutter; Frank Catto carved the eagle; and Charles Rossi carved the wreaths.
