    Description: 
    The stone is carved in relief with an image depicting a seated female figure resting her left arm on a shield and handing a scroll with her right hand to a young man standing before her. Standing behind the young man is an angle holding a trumpet, and on the ground at her feet there are a fireman's hat and coat. On the opposite side of the seated female figure is a young boy reaching out toward the young man. Standing behind the child there is a female figure in classical drapery, her hand raised to her chest. In the background there is a temple with FIRE DEPARTMENT carved in relief across the front. Below the relief image there is an emblem carved in relief depicting a pair of crossed ladders, a coil of rope, a fire hose, a fire hat, a badge, and an axe. Flanking the emblem there is an inscription carved in relief.

    Remarks: 
    One of 193 commemorative stones set into the interior walls of the Washington Monument. The stones were donated by states, cities, towns, organizations, individuals, and foreign countries in honor of George Washington. The Fire Department of New York City donated the stone, which is located at the 260 ft. level.
