Description:
A piece of polished stainless steel constructed in intersecting arcs welded together. The predominate shapes of the flat surfaces are triangular, rectangular, and square. The surface has been textured to give it a swirling pattern. The base is a flat concrete square sitting on a grassy mound surrounded by sidewalks.

Remarks:
The sculpture represents the building blocks of education. The sculpture was commissioned by Dr. Samuel Barker, Dean Emeritus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Graduate School. IAS files contain related articles from Birmingham Post-Herald (Birmingham, AL) June 7, 1991, pg. C1 and Birmingham News Aug. 4, 1991 (Birmingham News article references media as aluminum). Bill Lowe is the carpenter who made the forms, and Tom Perry was his assistant on the project.
