Saint Sebastian was a soldier of the Pretorian Guard under emperors Carinus and Diocletian. When it became known he was a Christian, he was shot with arrows. He survived but was later beaten to death in ca. 288. Believed to be a copy of a Campeche painting by the former owner of the painting, Mrs. Simona de Peralta.
