Remarks:
The panels were done through the Works Progress Administration (WPA). When designed, the Federal Building served as a courthouse, U.S. Post Office and Customs House, and it housed various other government agencies. The Federal Building was designed by the architectural firm of Robert O. Derrick, Inc.; Walter G. Penfield was construction engineer, and Great Lakes Construction Company, the general builders. For a additional information see Jeanie Huntley Bentley, et al, "Artists in Michigan, 1900-1976," Detroit: Wayne State University Press, 1989, pg. 189. IAS files contain related materials about the construction of the building.
