Edmund Pendleton was a Continental Congressman in 1774 and a Revolutionary leader in Virginia. The painting is a copy after a miniature by William Mercer, owned in 1930 by Mrs. George Alvin Smith of Richmond, Virginia. The painting was loaned by Miss Charlotte Pendleton in Jan. 1898.
