    Remarks:
Bust commemorates Darrell S. Cole, a native of Esther who was killed in World War II at Iwo Jima. He was the field musician and leader from a military company known as "Captain Willie's Raiders," lead by General William Weinstein. The bust was dedicated on what would have been Cole's sixty-fifth birthday. The bust was stolen in 1992, but recovered. IAS files contain two articles from The Daily Journal (Flat River, MO): July 22, 1985, pg. 1, and July 23, 1985, pg. 8. The former article includes discussion of the dedication.
