Remarks:
The idea for the monument originated with the Utah Pioneer Trails and Landmarks Association, who with the Cache Valley and local Boy Scouts of America, united in a project to mark some of the important historical sites throughout the state. The monument honors Jim Bridger and the traders and trappers active in this area before Cache Valley. James (Jim) Bridger, along with Jediah Strong Smith, William L. Sublette and others, brought a cache of 75 bales of furs to this site in the winter of 1825-26. The furs were later sold in market in St. Louis. The sculpture was originally located near Hyrum Dam, but was relocated to its present location because of flooding problems. IAS files contain transcription on plaque and information about the sculpture from Earle W. Allen's book entitled "Home in the Hills of Bridgerland: the History of Hyrum from 1860-1969," City of Hyrum, c. 1969, pgs. 2, 344-345.
