    Description: 
    Round sundial rests atop a mushroom-shaped pedestal base . The sundial surface contains four compass points marked by capital letters E, W, N, S on the outer boundary and numbers 6 through 18 on rays from center top 2/3 of sundial's face. Gnomon stands on the #12 ray which is marked "N". A globe of the world is at the end of the gnomon. Continents and land masses are in bas- relief. The Hawaiian Islands are on the uppermost part of the globe.

    Ginnousuke O'Hara, a dialist with Japan's Research Institute for Sundials, presented the sundial he designed and built to the Institute for Astronomy on behalf of the Citizen Watch Company of Tokyo. IAS files contain articles from the Information Bulletin (Honolulu, Hawaii) dated February 21, 1993, pg. 1; and the Star Bulletin (Honolulu, Hawaii) dated January 22, 1980, pg.A2. IAS files also contain a complete transcription of the markings on the sundial. Sundial includes time capsule to be opened in 2030.
