    Description: 
    A marker with rectangular limestone relief panel on the front depicting a uniformed Civil War soldier against a forest background. The soldier is seen turned to his right, kneeling on his proper right knee. He holds a rifle before him by the barrel, the stock touching the ground. The soldier has a moustache and wears a cap, with pouches attached to his rear waist. Above the relief is a circular, bronze State of Indiana seal. On the rear of the marker is a bronze plaque with a soldier's cap, crossed rifles, and other implements in relief. The marker has a pyramidal cap and is topped with an acorn. It is set upon a short, rectangular, rough-edged base.

    Remarks: 
    The monument commemorates the involvement of the 68th Indiana Regiment, Indiana Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 4th Division, 14th Corps at the Battle of Chickamauga during the Civil War. It marks the position held by the regiment during the battle. It was placed by the State of Indiana for $1,000. IAS files contain related excerpt from Jack Kerr's "Monuments and Markers of the 29 States Engaged at Chickamauga and Chattanooga," Collegedale, TN: The College Press, n.d.; copy of Georgia Historic Resources 1988 form, Historic Preservation Section, Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The monument is on the National Park List of Classified Structures No. 08784 or 08835.
