    Remarks:
Simon Bolivar (1783-1830) was a South American soldier, statesman, and revolutionary leader known as El Libertador (the Liberator) for his role in liberating several South American nations from Spanish rule in the 19th century. A native of Venezuela, Bolivar served as leader of Colombia, Peru, and a nation that combined Colombia and Venezuela. Bolivia was named after Bolivar. Gift of the government of Venezuela in 1979, the figure was stored in a Miami warehouse for several years before being dedicated in 1984. The delay was due to disagreement over the placement of the figure. The figure was renovated and rededicated in 1991 with a new base. Bayside Market Place was formerly known as Bayfront Park. IAS files contain dedication program and transcriptions of nearby plaques. IAS files contain articles from the Miami News, Feb. 9, 1982; Miami Today, Dec. 13, 1984, pg. 3; and Miami Herald, Dec. 18, 1984, pg. 4B.
