    Remarks:
IAS files contain copies of a April 1992 news release from the Public Safety Department, Fire Division, and an unidentified excerpt describing the history of the memorial. The idea for the memorial originated after a Feb. 19, 1936 fire at the old I.O.O.F. Hall at 198 South High Street claimed the lives of two Columbus fire captains, one lieutenant, and two firefighters. In 1957, Chief Walter Strickfaden commissioned firefighter Joe Pishitelli to be project coordinator. Land was acquired through a City Council ordinance and Lieutenant Ed Nothacker was selected to design the memorial. Ground was broken on Nov. 30, 1957 and the memorial was dedicated April 13, 1958.
