Located Poplar Street Park, Intersection of Poplar & First Streets, Macon, Georgia
Provenance:
Formerly located Macon City Hall, In front, Macon, Georgia before 1935.
Remarks:
The sculpture was installed by the R.A. Smith Camp of the United Confederate Veterans and the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in memory of the women of the Confederacy. The memorial was designed by E. F. France and carved in Italy. The base was fabricated by the National Marble Company of Marietta, Georgia. A dedication ceremony was held on June 3, 1911, Jefferson Davis' birthday. Originally erected in front of Macon City Hall, the memorial was relocated in 1935, about 100 yards away (in Poplar Street Park) in order to improve traffic flow in the area and to give a more open view of City Hall.
