Remarks:
The "Foshay" sign was originally illuminated with glass tubes containing electric current. The lighting stopped working within sixty days of the dedication, and the lights were restored in 1979. Reportedly, the sign is illuminated with approximately 900 60 watt bulbs. For related reading, see the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Dec. 26, 1984, pg. 1.
